9/22/2017 - 9/22/2017: Invasive Species Removal Project

Notice of Herbicide Treatment at Runnins River

Commencing on September 27, 2017, (weather depending) the City, with assistance from its consultant (GZA) and contractor (SOLitude Lake Management) will be applying an herbicide to the invasive reed overgrowth within the Runnins River area.  Following application of the herbicide, the phragmites reeds will be removed in the Fall following the first frost of the year.  The project is being conducted pursuant to permits issued by the RIDEM.  Included with this notice is a map of where workers intend to access the area.

The objective of this project is to restore the natural wetland by removing the invasive vegetation which impedes the flow of water.  The restored wetlands will improve flow in the tributary and help to reduce the severity of the flooding in this area.  Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the Department of Public Works at 401-435-7701.
